How to prevent spam comments on your website

Spammers have designed programs to generate comments in such a way that it will automatically comment on your blog instead of physically visiting your site.

Lots of bloggers use image captcha or math captcha to confirm that the commenter is not a spammer but a real visitor. Spam programs are built in such a way that it does not require spammer to fulfill the arguments that are put by these captcha before submitting your comment form.

Today, in this article we will show you how to prevent spam comments on your site by using a simple free plugin.

Block or Prevent spam comments on your website

Preventing these spammers is not that easy in normal WordPress theme or installation. There are specific built in Plugins available to fight these kinds of attack.

BotBlocker is a plugin developed specifically to prevent spammer from your blog. After installing the plugin, you need to visit the settings section and then to Botblocker settings to set the plugin for your WordPress website.

By default this plugin will place the settings for you. However you can change it as per your requirements. Now save these settings of Botblocker to work for your blog.

This plugin will change the default WordPress comment form fields in the back end to something else which normal human beings like you and I can not see.

When the programmer sends a spam comment to your blog then it will change fields and by mistakenly spammer will enter wrong information to get processed. WordPress will not allow if right information are not filled in the right place.

For example; if your website URL field has been changed to name field by the Plugin in the back end then the spammer with its program will fill name in the URL section as it reads the program in that way, which is incorrect. As a result, WordPress will not process the comment.

The problem with Botblocker plugin is that it will not stop manual spammer in spamming your website. For this problem, we suggest you to remove the URL section from your comment form as these spammers are mainly interested in getting a link from your website for their SEO purpose. You can also use Akismet to catch them.

Try this with your blog and let us know if you are able to prevent comment spams for your blog.
