Comments are by default getting enabled while publishing an article or page in WordPress. However, before publishing you can choose the option to disable comments in WordPress. Similarly, you can also change these settings for all published posts by selecting mass edit option from WordPress dashboard.
To disable comments in new posts or pages you need to deselect the option of “Allow Comment” in New post or New page. Similarly you can change this setting for a particular post by editing it in WordPress. If you are not seeing the discussion option to change then you have to enable it by selecting “screen option” from the top right hand corner of your screen of new post or new page and then select “discussion”.
If you want to disable comments in WordPress for all of your posts or pages then select all the post or pages and change comments section to do not allow by selecting edit option from the top left hand corner as shown below.
If you do not want to use the option of selecting “allow or disallow comments” every time while posting new article to your site then you can directly turn it off from the settings section of your WP dashboard.
By deselecting “Allow people to post comments on new article” you will restrict users to comment on all new articles that you are going to post after this change.
You will get this option from Settings > Discussion. But, you cannot activate comment for a particular post or page if you want it in future for a particular post or page as this setting will be applicable to all new posts of WordPress.
If you want to have all those settings that we discussed above and still wants to activate comments for a particular post or page in future then you can do so with a plugin. “No Page comments” is a free plugin available in WordPress plugin directory.
By using this plugin, you can disable comments for new posts or pages from one place and still you can go ahead and enable it for a particular post or page while posting it in future.
To get started, let us install and activate the plugin to WordPress site. Then from settings section navigate to “No Page Comment” option to get access to the plugin’s settings. From here you can select to enable or disable comments for all new posts.
If you want to disable comments in WordPress for all posts that you already published then you can do so by just selecting the enable or disable options as shown below.
Now we have discussed how to disable comments in WordPress. Please let us know your feedback on this and also let me know how you manage your comments section in WordPress.
